Stephan Kipp, Vladimir Šepelák,und Klaus Dieter Becker, TU-Braunschweig: The mechanochemistry offers for the preparative operating chemist of solids a method which possesses an enormous diversity of potential fields of applications. The unique aspect of the method is the unproblematic adjustment of the conditions of the synthesis. Required with standard methods of solid state chemistry are often high temperatures or pressures, defined gas atmospheres or special educt conditions. In contrast, in mechanochemistry only a sufficiently efficient ball mill, the corresponding grinding bowls and balls as well as educts and if necessary suitable additions are needed. Differently as with the classic synthesis of solids, in this way many chemical reactions can be conducted in a non-thermal manner.
